Just Another Average Tuesday

Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays are my "easy days" because I only have one class and it is not until 10:20am. I like the option of sleeping in or getting up and being productive. I have my Madison writing class, and it is going to kick my butt. Professor Dorr is getting less intimidating by the day, which is really good.
This past Sunday I ran the Capital City River Run Half Marathon. It was so much fun! There were a few parts that were rather rough, but all in all, it was a great race. My goal time was to finish around 1:45 and I finished with an official time of 1:43:03. So happy! The course was very scenic. It started at Lansing Center and ran down Michigan Avenue into Michigan State's campus. After looping by the Breslin Center, we ran the Lansing River Trail (similar to Battle Creek's Linear Trail) for quite a while. We went through some parks and some neighborhoods, through the entryway of Potter Park Zoo, and back to the river again. I missed the Mile 11 Marker, which was good because I went from Mile 10 to Mile 12 and then had just over a mile left. The race organizers put up signs that had random facts on them, which were entertaining to read. A few of them were: "a ten pound watermelon has nine pounds of water," "the flame of a standard size match gives off 1BTU of energy," and other obscure things. Mom and Dad came up for the finish, which was so nice! It was great to be able to see them (even though the last three weeks have gone by really quickly, it seemed as though I hadn't seen them in forever!). We were able to grab lunch before I went to my first Model United Nations simulation.
Here is a picture from the race:

For those of you who do not know what Model UN is, it is just what it sounds like. Each person has to represent an important political figure or country (I was Kenya for this simulation) and act as though you were actually from that country while debating. Fun fact: MSU is actually one of the top 10 teams in the country! Anyways...You have a central issue to debate and come up with a solution for (we were discussing the use of Private Military Companies) throughout the session. It was a little intimidating at first because the veteran members were not shy at all about getting up and giving speeches. Once we began to work on our resolution papers with what we would do about the issue, it got better. I am hoping to go to one of the conferences this year-either Montreal or Boston.
Tomorrow is a ridiculously busy day: Geography, Public Affairs, lunch, Econ, Public Affairs recitation, running club, Child Life club, then homework. yay for a busy life! More later...
